My Bataille

A debaucherous energy is transferred between Georges Bataille’s lewd objects and physical apparatus in his ‘Story of the Eye’, the filth shifting between physical hosts and to any space within which obscenity is afforded.

Connections exist between the new works presented in My Bataille - the material language, the visual links, the suggestion of seen and unseen activities.
That these connections occur in a gallery space becomes a curious context, a type of semi-public space asking the viewer to make a commitment:
How potentially erotic is a gallery? Can artworks transfer an energy between them?

We have invited three artists to respond to their notions on Bataille. Participating are London-based artists Rut Blees Luxemburg, Douglas Park and Ian Daniell.
What they present lends itself to some metaphoric debaucheries between the works where the viewer becomes an important catalyst in making a connection.

On the opening night of 01st November 2012 Douglas Park will verbally present his new work.
